Post-screening emotions

Thank you to everyone for coming to last night’s “A Week in Metro Manila: Up Dharma Down” Manila screening! We didn’t expect Capone’s to be that packed as early as 10pm! I would also like to apologize for the sound difficulties. As it turned out, Capone’s sound system was slowly failing. But again and again, THANK YOU for the support!

Thank you to The Charmes, Up Dharma Down, and the events staff, of course! Last night would not have been possible without you guys!

On a personal note, thank you too for being patient with my newbie hosting skills (har har) and for that epic birthday salubong! To everyone who sang in chorus while Armi and I were onstage (plus those hugs!!!), thank you! And to both bands, The Charmes and Up Dharma Down, thank you for the in between sets greeting! *kilig*

There are just too many things to be grateful about and this post just can’t make most of its justice. But I know that we ALL had fun last night so yeah, let’s take it by experience and memory!

And you know what, Terno will always be home. :)

Terno Bands invade two stops over…

What is the Filipino sound? Paco tries to capture the answer to this through the portraits of 9 independent Filipino bands under the Terno Recordings label: MUSICAL O, UP DHARMA DOWN, HIDDEN NIKKI, ENCOUNTERS WITH A YETI, SLEEPWALK CIRCUS, NOT ANOTHER BOY BAND, POPULAR DAYS, THE CHARMES, and the RADIOACTIVE SAGO PROJECT; shooting them in old, heritage buildings and sites in the city.

The first two bands, Hidden Nikki and Not Another Boy Band, were shot in Sampaloc, in a beautiful building called Gota de Leche, or a drop of milk, which is run by a century-old  foundation called La Proteccion de la Infancia. The set, which came with a piano, was perfect for Hidden Nikki. The outdoor post, which was used for the whimsical Not Another Boy Band, was a parody of the iconic photograph of New York construction workers having lunch over Manhattan.

Radio Active Sago, with its spoken word elements, was shot in the gutted, graffiti sprayed ruins in Intramuros.

The remaining bands took their turns in the Manila Post Office. Sleepwalk Circus was shot by the wide, vintage steps; Encounters with a Yeti was at the impressive Lockboxes; a messy room behind the building was the set for Up Dharma Down; the locker area had Musical O running around; Popular Days used the cavernous main hall of the post office; and, finally, The Charmes were shot at the building’s façade.

Check out the 3rd Episode of Two Stops Over airing on Nov. 21, 7:30pm on 2nd Avenue!
